On the way back from my 2 day camping trip, I saw a red car off in the distance comming my way. As it went passed I was startled and yelled out to a car full of girls "HOLY CRAP THAT WAS A LAMBORGHINI DIABLO!"..... the response I get? "so, its just another stupid car." Come on, when else have you seen a 350,000 dollar sports car with a V12 in Terre Haute? Im sure all you guys that live in california, and las vegas are used to it, but not around here..... there is nothing. I was quite amazed to say the least. Its the first time Ive heard a V12, and it sounded really good. Sorry for the boring rant.... just had to tell somebody /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

I used to work at a Toyota dealership. A oriental guy came in andgave one of the salesmen a line of how he liked the land cruiser and told him this story of all he owned. The salesman shined him on and said "I would love to see that"! So, feeling like he was being tested the customer came right back with his 1985 Lamborghini Countach 500S. I worked in the back of the shop and heard this monsterous rumble like tractor trailer was making a delivery. This guy came through. The dealership stopped in it's tracks!!!! All the customers came to see it. Unbelievable car!!!

My boss (who has more $$ than God) owns one, a red one actually. I've been here two years and have STILL not gotten a ride. Every here and again I see it inthe garage and I'm like a little kid - I wanna touch it, but I fear wailing sirens.

I can't say anything bad about my boss, at least he's not all selfish- he is buying me a 2003 Cobra SVT as my company car (as soon as I get it y'all will hear me going on and on about it - should be the second week in Aug).

Don't see many of 'um out in the "wild" (off the TV set).

I'm glad someone else out there admits to getting fired up about seeing cool cars. I'm at the Jersey shore this weekend and a few hours ago I almost gave myself whiplash watching cars go by me. A sample;
A brand new Aston Martin DB7 Vantage Volante. It's a v-12 too... very, very cool sound.
A early 80's Ferrari 308 GTS
A nicely restored Galaxie 500
A new Hummer H2

And I saw (and heard) WAAAAYYYYY too many "tuned" Hondas, Acuras, Hyundais, Toyotas, Escorts, etc, etc.

There is something about sweeeet rare cars.

No sh*t, my boss says that if I can beat a (ridiculously high) billing goal he'll let me drive the Lamborgini Diablo (I somehow think he will stop assigning me cases if I start to get to close). Also he didn't say how FAR I could drive it. I might wet myself just sitting in the drivers seat if I ever get that far. If I don't beat the goal he drives the fastback.

In other news -Unfortunately, this weekend in Austin TX we have a car "thing" called Texas Heat Wave. Apparently every ricer in the country comes to Austin and hangs out. Kinda like a Harley rally but not near as cool. I just can't get excited about a 4 cyl Honda no matter how expensive the paint job.

SO answer me this - Why do we have no problem slobbering all over a sweet classic car, but we don't want to lose our composure the same way in front of the Lamborgini, Ferrari, and Astin Martin owner?

Hell, I've seen a Countach in a showroom in new orleans....

If you ever lived there, you'd know how funny that is!

JB Jr. is in Australia this week. He called tonight. I asked him about the cars and he said there are a ton of Rice Burners with Tomato Can exhausts. He did run into a guy with a '66 vert and JB mentioned VMF. They exchanged emails and the guy is interested in the forum. Hey, maybee another Bloke from Down Under! How is that for international relations?

Maybe the owners of newer exotics care about their cars differently than a classic collector does. They won't talk to you the way you would talk to someone about your Mustang.

I've loved Astons since I was a teenager - I even joined the AM Owners Club about 5 years ago. I speak from experience when I say there are usually two types of owners of Astons 1) those who own the cars because they have liked them for years and truly think they're special machines (can be older cars and newer cars) and 2) those who collect / drive / show off fancy cars becuase it's an "it" car, or they have to drive the latest, greatest, best...

#1 will be cool to talk to, and #2 will ignore you - Trust me. That's probably an answer to your question. Also, not that many people get into tinkering heavily with these cars the way the VMF community does.
(O/T - having the AMOC card gets me behind the ropes at the NY Auto show!!)

When me and the boss delivered a very nice Cobra replicar to Malibu California, we passed a real Lambo. I was just drooling over the car and to my surprise the guy yelled out "nice car"!!! and gave us the thumbs up. Way cool!!!

I live in northern California and I see my share of really expensive exotic cars, but man, the owners are real jerk-offs. Every time I've given the thumbs-up to a driver of a Lambo, Ferrari, Saleen S7, Shelby Series 1, Porsche 911S, etc... they always just look at me and just look away as if I flipped them off or something.

Last week a house fire in Redmond, WA, was shown on the news. It started in the gerage. The pictures showed the rear end of a Ferrari 308, still smouldering. I suppose if you can own one of these gems you can afford darn good insurance.

I'm also an Aston Martin fan. You can have the Rolls, the Bent and the Benz. I'll take the AM.

I snapped this one at PIR a few weeks ago.
