Yeargh....I still can't get the head to separate from the block. There isn't a single bolt holding it on, just the gasket. I've got the engine on a stand and am trying to pick the head off using a hoist, but it picks the whole things up. What on earth should I do? I'm almost to the point of tipping the whole stand over and watching it clank off the ground (not really). FRUSTRATION!!!

Take the rocker arms off and remove the other five head bolts.

I helped my brother-in-law tear his engine down once and he swore all the bolts were out and I looked it all over and found a couple he missed. Double and tripple check everywhere. When you are absolutely sure they are all out completely, you might try a pry bar on the edge where the tangs are. Just don't crack a corner off.

If your absolutely sure you have all the bolts out. Use a heavy RUBBER MALLET and smack it in the 4 corners. Do not use a steel hammer!
