I just bought a 66 convertible and need to replace the driver's side mirror. I am not mechanically inclined (as the question indicates) Anyone have any helpful hints on how to do it? The instructions that came with it say I have to drill holes. why can't I use the holes that are there for the current mirror?

If you bought a correct reproduction mirror that's all you'll need to do. Unscrew the two screws that secure the mirror to the door, swap the mirror and gasket out and reinstall the new screws. Simple.

I have a extra replacement side mirror, it came with the car from the PO. If you are looking to buy one I would consider selling it to you.
