This may have been covered on this forum, but I need help. I changed the turn signal switch on my 66 mustang, 200 ci. Now I have no power going to the turn signals. All fuses are good, wire hooked into sockets good. I have power to everything else. I even put a new flasher in. What am I doing wrong? Any ideas?

It could be a bad (new) switch assy.
Test it with a multimeter.


Why did you change the switch?
Could you swap the old one back in and test?

Little background. Top steering bearing needed replaced. The old signal light switch had an ear broke off. So, I needed to replace the switch. Ordered one from NPD, since I live only 60 miles from the Charlotte warehouse. I removed each plug from the connector and replaced with the same one from the new switch. This is all I did. Now no signal lights. Everything else works. The only difference I can see from previous owner was the green wire coming from the switch that went to brake light switch. He has bypassed the first connector and spliced into the second connector. According to the schematic this is where it winds up anyway, so I left it alone. I did not cut the green wire from the switch like he had done. I checked the new switch with an ohm meter. Everything had continuity. I’m just about ready to put a for sale sign on it. I need help!!

One more question. And this one is probably stupid, but does the steering wheel need to be on when testing the lights. Does it have something to do with grounding the turn signal switch. I’ve been checking everything with the wheel off.

No, The Steering Wheel does not need to be on to test the Turn signal switch... It will work just fine...but it will affect the Horn.

Make sure that the pins didn't back out of the connector when you plugged it in.

They might've just pushed out a little so they won't make contact.

Confused about the brake light switch wire.... that green wire needs to match up with the green/red stripe wire at the turn signal switch plug. Blue wire needs to match up with blue wire at the plug.

I’m rewiring. I have the blue and green wire going to the right place. The biggest problem is someone before me got into the wiring because of a horn problem. All the tape wrap has been taken off the wires and behind the dash looks like a rats nest. The horn wire was running to the starter solenoid, the brake light wire was spliced into the red green wire. The blue wire was fine. I may get it working sometime next year. I’m retired and can work on this whenever I just hate working on other people’s junk.

In a case like this, A Test probe and light and a Multimeter are your best friends...

Thanks for all the help. I need to tell you how I fixed everything. My emergency flashers didn’t work either. Figured out that they were not getting any power. After fixing these and rewiring the turn signals, everything works perfectly. I guess the flashers were stopping everything from working correctly.
