i was wondering if anyone can tell me why my 390 has a small oil filter on it. when i got my car it did not have the 390 in it i bought it out of a 69 coupe. when i went to the parts store i asked for an oil filter for 68 mustang with 390 they gave me the bigger standard oil filter any ideas which car ran the smaller filter

Hello.Your car should use an FL-1A oil filter.The small one sounds like the one that newer mustangs use.Hope that helps.

Are you looking for smaller diameter or shorter?

The shorter filter is a Motorcraft FL300. I believe an "OE application" for that was the 84-86 SVO Mustang - they needed the shorter filter because of oil cooler plumbing.

Not sure on the part number for the smaller diameter, but there is one. Find a friendly parts guy & open some boxes...

the standard filter will not fit mine the one i have sets off the motor and points straight up.

I use a short filter on mine because a standard rubs on my anti-roll bar.
