Someone please define "threw a rod" for me

Obviously it has something to do with the connecting rods, but what I don't know. Broken wrist pin? Tore up bearings? Broken rod bolts? I've heard the term before but I have always suspected the people who look at your tore up engine and say "it probably threw a rod" are simply repeating jargon they've heard from others in the past, and I want to know what it means before I do the same thing ;)

That's call " throwing a leg out of bed."!!!!!

Not nice~

If in doubt give it a clout
If at first you don't succeed , find a bigger hammer
