So I was astounded to find the float in my wife's 94 Explorer was still brass! Of course, it was slowly filling up with gas. I mean they have been using Nitrophyl floats in carbs since the late 60's, WTF with a brass float on a 90's vehicle? Besides the fact that this unit has the fuel pump in it and the sending unit is now a PCB instead of nichrome wire, it is basically the same unit as in the Mustang, retaining ring and all. They even still used the same crimp bands as used on the early Mustangs for the fuel pump connection which the guys at the Ford counter had no idea what I was talking about. They did however have a bunch of floats in stock. Like 12 or so. Amazing. Guess I'll rebuild my original unit after all.
