The body shop called and while replacing the left rear apron they had to pull the old steering box. It was a manual from a plain jane 68 FB. This box has no less than 170k miles on it. In the garage I have a box that I got for cheap and it has about 60k on it. I am not sure if the ratios are different since I have not checked the tags on this short notice. I figure I can't lose since the old one is worn. Any ideas?

Ideas about what?

If the other box is a short shaft box and you are sure it is in better condition then just swap it.

What are the differences between a manual and auto steering box and how do they compare to aftermarket steering boxes? Is it suggested to run a manual steering box over PS for better control? How well does that conversion yoke adaptor work when making your PS steering setup a manual?

Thanks in advance.
