I think the speedometer drive gear has shifted in my transmission. My speedometer does not work and I can't feel the drive gear in the transmission. I want to remove the tail shaft housing to access the drive gear. How big of a job is this? Do I need to secure the main transmission housing prior to removing the cross member? Any comments would be helpful. Thanks

the tailhousing is bolted up by 4 bolts i believe. its not a big deal, probably more messy then anything. take the drive shaft out. remove the 4 bolts and remove. depending on the gasket, it might be stuck to the main body. nothing a lil persuasion wont take care of.

also while its out you might as well replace that rear seal because you know it may not leak now, but as soon as you put it together it will. youll also need a new gasket for the tail shaft to the main body, i guess you could use a little RTV also
