I am in need of part # info on two starters. First, part # and the # stamped into the starter for a 68 428PI with manual trans in a 68 GT500, second is the same info for a starter in a 68 428 CJ with auto trans. Thanks

I looked this information up in my Mustang Restoration Handbook, so that is the source. According to the book, the ID number of C8AF-121001-A is used on all 428 mustang engines in 1968 (and also 427). The Serv. Starter Assembly number for the 428 starter of that ID number is C8AZ-11002-A. There is no reported differentation between auto and manual trans - cobrajuet, supercobrajet, and plain old 428. I checked the Ford Interchange Book which reports that 1966-70 428 cobrajet and supercobrajet used part number C4TZ-11002-B, ID number C8AF11001-A, except in 1970, when the ID number was D0TF-11001-A. This same starter was used in 68-69 Torino GT and Cyclone GT cars and 68-70 Mustang GT and Cougar GT 428 CJ and 428 SCJ. The same starter was also used on 66-73 Ford Trucks with 30, 361, and 391 engines. Hope this info helps.

sure it's fun (most of the time), but it's only a car.
