How on Gods green earth do you get the steering shaft apart from the steering box?? Are there some bolts undneath the sleeve that covers the shaft?? Anyone got a cutting torch???
j/k. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I'm a member of a few other late model Mustang web sites. This is by far the nicest and most helpful. Thanks for your help so far.

On the '65-'66 the shaft is part of the box. You have to drop the box to get it out of the column. This is why they are called "long-shaft steering boxes". It is also one of the things about our cars that is the least safe.

You can always cut it and put in a rag joint. That would be better than the solid shaft and would minimize vibrations as well.
