I have NOT seen that before, on a whole bunch of 65 66's. I think someone was trying to engineer around a problem, like thickness of the bushing, threads, etc. This is not a normal thing, IMHO.

Time to get out your tape measure and figure out if your front end is square.

Wouldn't the use of shims make the strut rods adjustable to a degree ? I've seen some folks that do that for alignment reasons/

That's our point exaclty. You shouldn't need them for the alignment, and even if you were trying to make a ghetto adjustable strut rod, why only adjust one side? It just screams frame damage.
