Hi. i got brand new slotted disc brake rotors and thier already showing signs of surface rust .. Why is this? and is there any kind of coating i can use to keep them looking new and functioning properly.. ??? i suppose that when the brake pads rub up against the rotors that this will grind off some of the surface rust? hmmm

That's pretty normal for rotors. Most unpainted metal parts are coated with an oil to prevent flash rust, but I would imagine because of liability issues, they don't want to do that with rotors, because some bozo won't clean them off and will end up getting a close up view of a tree some where

You could give them a light coat of oil to prevent further rusting, if they're going to be sitting for a while (but be sure to clean them good with brake cleaner before using them). If they're going into use in the near future I wouldn't worry about it. After a couple of stops, they'll look good as new.

They will rust in a few hours if they don't get dried by driving. It's normal.

As humid as Miami is , they will almost always have surface rust . You might be able to get a high temp coating for the "hub" section to prevent it from rusting but the rotor itself will never be rust free .
