I was considering buying a used set of 500s for interim purposes cos in my mental calendar getting TTDs was still a couple years off.... SMWBO looked at the numbers and said, "Why not just get what you want now and be done with it?" And who am I to disagree/forums/images/icons/cool.gif?

So, consulting Jay's wheel/tire chart and other research the 15x7s come only in 3.75" backspace unless you custom order at a higher price. So,

1. Is this the same wheel width and backspacing as my standard stock wheels?
2. Also, have any of you 69-70 owners fit anything wider using this combo than the 205/60 front and 235/60 rear than is listed on the chart without mods?

I don't want to roll the fenders but am willing to do the Shelby mod up front if needed.
I've seen up to 225s/245s on the front/back of a 69 sportsroof but didn't think to ask the owner about the backspacing. Also, I have a note that for 15" wheels optimal b/s is 4.25": is that only if you want tires in that range?
TIA!

I have the 225/245 60 series BFG TA's , combo on my 69 w/o any lip modifications; not lowered (yet), rims are the Cragar SS however, 15x7. Sorry, I don't know the backspace.

15x7 with 3.75" BS has been reported to work fine by another VMFer (that's why it's in Bold Type). Part Number 105-5465.

And for Tires "P205/60R15 and P235/60R15 (rear only)"

NOTE: my bad re-read your question... looks like you are soliciting answers for getting larger rubber under there right? Can't help there...

Well just for your info.....

I have 16x7 in front with a 4.25 backspacing and i got a 225/50 Zr 16 tire on it with no fender interference....

the rear got 16x8 with 4.5" backspacing with a 245/50 Zr 16 tire

(there is room for a 16x9 with 5.5" back spacing but youd have to bend the little stopper tab downward....or cut the hangover tab alltogether....)

with a 9" width on rim.....I would say a 265/ 50 or 45 series for the 16 inch diameter wheel.

you dont want too much tire width because of the lateral weight transfer a tire has to travel to allow the car to adjust....or react...
it would make for sloppy handling....

good luck in your hunt and let us know how it goes.!!!!

Yes, that was the question. I've seen several 69-70s w. much larger rubber on 15x7s (including that red 69 sportsroof you photographed at Carlisle which had P235/60R15 Magnum 500s on the front).

So this topic is really not a dead horse after all.
