This is my friend's 67 coupe. He has taken 1st. the last two years at Pismo in the Modified Mustang Class. I had to leave before he knew how he did this year. He runs 9.70's currently with the 460 that he has under the hood, but will be pulling the engine when he gets back from Pismo on Monday, and will be installing a 523 stroker if I remember correctly? He is shooting for mid 8's with the new engine.

I have a very short Mpeg of it at idle, was supposed to be longer, but I forgot to purge the memory from my camera. Camachinist has the link to the Mpeg below, thanks Pat!. I will be heading out to his house in couple of weeks, and will try to get a better clip of it, maybe a light show as well.

I was suppose to get a ride in it yesterday, but a pretty girl beat me to the passenger seat, and he wasn't about to kick her out! *LOL No problem... I'll wait until the new engine is in, and then hit him up for a ride!

I have a very short Mpeg of it at idle, but have no idea on how to get it on the vmf for you to see

You can always e-mail it to me, if it isn't over 2mb, and I can upload it to my web site and link it here...

Cool car...reminds me of the McTiernan brothers old Pro Gas car ('69 FB)...Johnpro, if he's old enough, can likely tell you about the old Pro Gas wars at Sacramento...they used to call them the shoebox showdown...a number of 55-57 Chevies, along with cars like John McTiernans' Mustang. John, Bob Bunker and Dave Riolo all went on to run mid 8's and I believe eventually some 7's in their cars. Hard to believe that was almost 20 years ago. *G*...I've always been in awe of those guys...wish I had that kind of budget...

Is your friend running struts like I use on the race car, or is he using the M2 suspension? The front wheels look sucked in but it's hard for me to tell..

Where was that picture taken at? The background looks familiar...

Think he could fool the track guys into thinking it's a street car? *G* They allow ride-alongs in street IIRC...you'd maybe get one...hehehe

Hey Pat,

Just sent the Mpeg to you, it's only 443k. I believe he is running struts, not certain since I haven't got to see it with the nose off. The photo was taken on Pomeroy Street in Pismo, just a couple blocks in front of the Pier.

OK...hope you sent it to my correct e-mail, not the one in my profile..hehehe

I thought that area looked familiar...near Pismo Beach Fish and Chips...*G* To-die-for onion rings...

If it came to my e-mail, I'll get it up and post a link here...

Ok....folks can check out the video clip here..it's about 450K...

Car sounds like a Pro Stocker..*G*

Reminds me exactly the way McTiernan's car sounded...definitely different than a BBC...

Thanks!

Hey...took a closer look in slow mo...he's got a blower on that thing...!! At first glance I just thought it was a tunnel ram. That would explain the surging idle...

No wonder 9.70's aren't a problem...McTiernan was running 9.50's naturally aspirated...*G*

Actually I don't think he has the blower on it, what did you see to make you think that it did? He does have one and was going to use it on the new engine, but has decided to keep it naturally aspirated as well.

Nice car. I have a '66 that runs 9.20's on the engine(466) and must weigh 2800# pet Pro Street rules. Please tell me there's not a GM tranny in this thing.... pleeeeeezeeeee! I ran mine at TNT Friday & went a 9.99 on a checkout pass. Thing oughtta run mid-low 8's with a plate, be glad to get the fogger on it! Mine idles somewhat smoother than that... maybe the huffer? It on gas or alky?

Look carefully at the front of where the engine protrudes through the hood...there's something catching light alternatively...light then dark then light again...looks like a blower pulley to me...

Also, I've been around a lot of tunnel ram cars...most can fit under a 7" hood scoop...no way that one can...

Combined with the surging idle (every hear a Pro Comp...oops, I mean Top Alcohol car?), I had to revisit everything. It's the racer in me...*G*

See, you heard it too!

My guess is blown on gas, likely racing gas, from the sound. Too crisp for methanol and, besides, it appeared to be carbureted, which is possible, but IME, tough to do on methanol. Almost sounded like he had SuperTraps on the headers, which appear to be front dump fenderwell units.

Nice runs on all you guy's cars...I wish I had the budget to tour one...

But I had lots of fun running my relatively slow one for 15-20 years..*G*..made some good prize money too...

Rick,
I prepped and posted a sig sized pic of your car if you'd like to use it in your sig line...

Yeah I saw that in the clip as well, but I think that might of been the unsteadiness of the camera as I was walking, and catching sun & shade on the chrome.

I have to admit, I didn't really pay a whole lot of attention to it, but I glanced inside the hood cut out while I was there and didn't notice a blower, but then again, I was looking for a business card that fell down inside off of the windshield. /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

I'll have to call him and find out for sure now that you have my curiosity aroused as well!

You are the man! I tried to do the sig pic once but had something to do so just made it a link. Sounded like Straps to me too. I have Dynomax's on my hoop. Sure takes a ton of dough to do it! I'm yanking my 429SCJ from the Spoiler(about to restore as a driver) & putting it in a '90 GT. Weight about the same as my '71 Mustang did & it went mid 12's on pump gas, makes it easier on the wallet! I have to agree the slower cars are a lot more fun, but the attention /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Capp's a cool guy huh? He always helps me out when I need parts here locally. I saw his car up on the hill on Saturday, I actually heard people talking about it first so I knew it must've been there. Hey did you see those 2 Shelbys right across the street from it and down the hill a few feet in that parking lot? There was that old Nascar car and right behind it there was a GT350 and a GT500 I think that's what they were. Both legit, I checked a few things.
