I've read in catalogs that there two different types of senders for these engines. Without ordering the sender I'm wondering what I have on my car currently. All the other Mustangs I've seen in the junkyard have a different sender than what's on my car. I went to NAPA autoparts and they said they only had one listed in the books. Interesting. There is a link below to a pic of my sender.

Thanks.

I don't know what you have there; but that is not the right unit. Napa has always had the correct one for my 66, I believe there could be one that is for a 65 with lites instead of gauges.

That would be strange if it was the idiot light instead of the gauge sender. Maybe I'll stop by the parts store and ask if they have one for a 65.

Unless you have a pre 9/65 intake/head on your 200 the sender is the same for 66 - 69's. It's also the same unit for V8's from 66 - 68. If you have a NPD catalog look on page 80. Chances are Napa has the correct one unless you have an older intake/head.

I took the "sender" out and found it's not a sender at all. It's a bolt!

Now I'm not sure what to do. I looked in my NPD catalog and this thread/size looks more similar to the 289 style sender size than the 6 cyl size. Is that possible?

I'm sure of where the sender is, but I figured I'd take a picture of where it came from anyway. There is a nice drip of coolant in the pic from where the bolt came from.

I finally figured out that I have the older style head and temp sender. The "bolt" that someone put in there was just a stop gap measure. Now I feel real dumb. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
