[Looking for 1970 mach 1]

Hey everyone, like many people Im trying to hunt down my dads old Mach 1. Wimbledon White, black interior, 351c-4v, 4 speed, shaker hood, no louvers just the rear spoiler. possible VIN is 0F05M171330. Best I was able to find is a title was created in Texas in 2013. My dad lived in Texas in the 80s when he sold it but the car was at his brothers house in Virginia. Would love to surprise him with his retirement coming up soon...but honestly would just be happy knowing the car hasnt rotted away.

EDIT That VIN is the only one I could find on the Mustang Registry website that fit his options. I'm sure there are others out there, cause that website only gets info when people upload it. Also, I'm not ready to pay $80 for a Marti report that will tell me how many 1970 mach 1s were made exactly like his. Gonna figure out a way to get dad's vehicle owner records and get the exact VIN of his car and go from there. Tried a cop buddy of mine and he said they can't run info the way they used to.

I have a couple years before he retires but I've been wanting to do this for a long time. Appreciate any and all help!

Your best bet is to hire a private investigator. They'll be able to pull the DMV records and contact the current owner.

I've seen prices for that all over the place. If they would be able to pull my dad's vehicle record and find the correct VIN for his mach 1 that would help...but how many people out there would claim to be a "private investigator" just to scam people?

I saw that and thought about it. I used that VIN because it was the only one on the mustang registry site that came up when I put in all the options he's told me about the car. I'm sure there were other white 4 speed 1970 mach 1s with black interior and a shaker hood out there. I'm gonna try to find a way to get his records through DMV and find his exact VIN. I got a couple years to pull this off but rather start looking now.

You're probably going to have better luck finding a legit, licensed PI than you would trying to find the car on your own with a VIN you're not even sure is accurate. Without being able to access the DMV systems, you're hoping that some random person is going to happen to run across this thread and let you know they own that car. So far, only 164 people have viewed this thread. The odds of the person owning that car and finding this thread or someone knowing where that car is, is pretty slim.

For sure. I know I'm pretty much shooting blanks here, but I'm trying to exhaust all the "cost-free" options before I start investing money into this

Got any cop friends ? Unlimited DMV access

Tried that...he said they can't run searches like they used to be able to. He's a county cop and said the state police will jam them up. He also said it will only show recent updates. Asked about running my dad's name and that will only show currently owned vehicles, not previously owned.

Now after you have found the car...for little to no cost. What price do you think you will have to pay for the most sought after year and body style?

Oh I already know I'm gonna pay way more than I want but if I find his exact car I'll figure it out. I owe pops everything so I'll sell whatever I need to buy it....if I find it

Who's to say it's even registered
Could be rotting away somewhere or on a rotisserie for the last 5 years or crushed in the 90s

There's a Facebook group called lost muscle cars or something like that where people post old cars and surprisingly there are some reconnections.

You could try that but I think you're doing more harm than good using a guessed VIN if you want the exact car your dad had. Now if you are happy having a similar car then just post a WTB ad and grab your check book.

I've got the ball rolling on potentially locking down the exact VIN. Not gonna post a WTB ad until I know if I can find his or not. You're not the first person to mention that group I'll definitely look into it!
