It is the Howell Melon Fest this weekend in town. Nick and I are doing some street shoping when this older guy walks over to the mustang and about falls into it looking at it and going all around touching every part. Nick says are you going to say something to him, I said it was not worth the trouble. So I cross the street (I shop quicker the Nick, lol) where he was at and he stopped me and said I have to ask your husband who installed your carpet in the mustang. I look at him and said your looking at her! You should of seen the look on his face. Then he goes into a speal on how he has a 85 vet that he wants to redo the carpet. Blah, blah, blah....He actually was not a bad guy, just cheezed me off abit. Ok I'm done now. Dawn

I try never to make assumptions of females and their cars, but lemme tell you! From MY side of the parts counter, 9 out of 10 females that come in are mindless pawns of their husbands when it comes to car parts.

It's a logical assumption for that guy to make about your HUSBAND doing the carpet. Not fair, I realize, but logical.

That said, we can be pretty crass, can't we?

Yes, us MEN can be idiots at times . . .

I walked into a Fantastic Sam's once, expecting to find a deli and order a sandwich (it was lunchtime) . . .

Boy, was I surprised . . . :p

(not particuliarly relevant, but just had to share)

I'm a 18 girl. I have gone through the same crap with my 68 coupe.. It is just stereotyping. Guys think that women don't by anything but Vans, and Kia's.

That reminds me of yesterday when I was at Starbucks, and this man who saw me get out of the car asked these questions:
1. IS THAT OUR CAR?
2. DO YOU KNOW WHAT KIND OF ENGINE YOU HAVE? ( I gave him a wierd look and he said this) I SAY THIS SINCE WOMEN DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT CARS!
I understand your pain!!!
I used to work at a car wash for my first job and most of the Saleen's, Trans Am, Firebirds, and Huge jeeps, were driven by women. ::

What's even worse is when it happens at a show. Especially when a judge doesn't believe you do the work on the car. ;)

DawnAnn,

Men are pigs, and a lot of older guys are still in denial of "Rosey the riveter" or the fact that women can do more than cook, clean, and change diapers (which is funny, because men can't do any of those unsupervised ;) )
When I first saw your subject of this post, I was first thinking, "Oh jeez, what did Nick do..." Glad I was wrong :: ::

Laurie,
the trick is not to get cleaned up after working on teh stang before a show. Just show up looking like a hillbilly dirtball and they might take you seriously. ::

I am very young looking, people say I have a baby face, so I get a hard time anywhere I go and never get taken seriously. Most of the people who come into my shop ask me where my father is, wanting to get work done. I tell them, he is at his job, selling tractors, and then tell them I can write them up an estimate or whatever. I always get second looks from that, and usually get the slow talking, strange eyes that say, " ok bud, you must be the retard that details cars in the shop."

UNLESS I am dirty and have putty dust or grease up my arms and at least one bloody knuckle. That's when everyone says I am the doogie howser of the auto world. (I never take that as a compliment, but it sure beats hearing, "Where's the manager or the owner?")

I get it all the time. I live in the UK, Own my OWN Stang and Blazer, both bought and paid for by myself.

I usually get, "What made you buy Yank Tanks instead of (For example) a ford Escort". Makes me laugh really!

Terry gets questions about her "husband's" car all the time. If they hang around for more than a couple of minutes, they find out she knows more than most of 'em.
They walk away pretty quick. I enjoy it.
It's my car show entertainment.
If they're more impressed than embarrassed, then I get the typical, "Does she have any sisters?"

Dawn, You forgot to mention the guy parked next to us in the bank parking lot yesterday that said your car was "SEXY".

Humm, Thats funny. Steph is a CPA. She works some very long hours duing tax season. I feel that she paid for her vert and realy earned it.

Also I do a lot of the cooking because I enjoy it, (also I cook better). I get a kick out of it when someone comes up and says "nice car", I get to say "it's hers and she did most of the work on it" :: ::.

Whats even better she wants to help me to build the stroker for the sportsroof, now thats class. :: ::

I was in a minor flame war on a financial board the other day, and the bonehead (who knew I had recently bought my vert) decided to try and insult me by saying that "it was such a wussy car, that he remembers when he was a kid, it seemed that 9 out of 10 Mustangs passing by were driven by girls".

I of course asked him which element pissed him off worse- the fact that all the MUSTANGS were passing him, or the fact that all the GIRLS were passing him...and that it was really irrelevant either way because, bottom line, he clearly got passed a lot and would have to get over it one of these years.

End of discussion.
