i hear a tapping/clicking noise from the passenger side of the motor. sounds similar to an exhaust leak, but its not. the noise goes with the RPM of the motor.

original, completely stock NON-rebuilt 351 4v Cleveland

I wouldn't rule out an exhaust leak until you knew every bolt was nice and tight. After all - the ticking speed of an exhaust leak increases with the RPMs just like a lifter tick.

I agree, since the noise is associated with one side of the engine. I've had a few exhaust leaks from my Blazer and you can usually see the black carbon around the leak.
If it seems to get louder with higher revs this is probably the prob. Also the cheapest to fix.
If it were a ping or knock it would be difficult to tell which side it was coming from.

I think its refered to as the "cleveland tick". I have never seen anyone explain what exactly causes it. Mine does it and it's all a fresh rebuild. I don't like it, but I am starting to accept it as normal.
If you do happen to figure it out, please post it for us.
Thanks....
Kevin
