On my 66 coupe, when I press on the brakes, at first there is a loud rapid ticking sound coming from the front wheels. Then as I get slowed down, the ticking gets less often, but when it does tick it rocks the whole car back and forth. It just started doing this about a month ago (been driving the car for a year). Any idea what could be wrong? (stock drum brakes with dual stage master cylinder, 6 cylinder)

I agree, sounds like the drum is out of round.

Also, check the brake shoes when you take the drum off. I wouldn't be surprised if the "ticking" is because you're worn down to the rivets. Shoes with enough meat on them should make more of a "swishing" sounds. If the shoes are good, while you are in there, make sure the brake adjuster is working properly, and that you manually tighten it after you put your freshly turned drum on.

Oh, duh, make sure the ticking sound isn't coming from the hubcap/wheel center too.
