I just set the timing on my 351w. The books all call for 10deg advance for a 351w 2v...the eninge was modified to a 4bbl edelbrock and intake from a 1969 Mach 1. Should this timing setting still apply even though it was for a 2bbl?
Also the book calls for idle 500-800, it runs smoother at higher idle, is this due to the 4bbl conversion and will it hurt to idle it up?
Seems to be running alot smoother but diesels a tad on shutoff.

if the car diesels when you turn it off, you should probably back the idle down a little bit. and as far as timing goes, just play with it. try running it at 12*, and if you dont get any pinging, step it up a bit, and if you get pinging back it off a couple of degrees.. its just trial and error if you want to be nit picky about your timing and eeking out some extra power. mine is set at 13 degrees initial and i have no pinging and the car idles in gear at about 750RPm smooth as a whistle.
