You really don't need anything that is what the gasket is for. On my 351w I just put some permatex high tack on one side to hold the gasket and bolted it up. No leaks so far but it has only been 2000 miles. ::

It depends on how much time you want to spend the next time you have to change it. :)

I have never goo'ed on any of my veicles and have never had a problem. I have used a little glue to hold the gasket in place which I bolted everything together.
