Tool for installing crankshaft oil seal?

ok, since i dont happen to have Ford tools #T53L-200A and #T60K-6700-A as the shop manual suggests, what is the best way to install the front oil seal into the timing cover on my 200? it seems like i need a large washer that will contact only the outer edges of the seal and something with which to direct the hammer blow accurately. anybody have a tip here?
maybe just a short piece of 2x4 laid across the seal rim will do the job?
thanks in advance...
