The Toploader has been leaking from the front bearing retainer. The gasket was broken. Can I make a gasket from generic gasket material? I don't think that sillycone is suitable, or is it.

Also, what is the torque is for those 4 retainer to box bolts. I have lent my shop manual and will get it back on Sunday, but if anyone knows, it would speed up things.

I just replaced the three main gaskets on my toploader, but I bought the gasket set from Dan Williams Transmissions. I'm not sure about making your own, but it may work fine. I was told to make sure the surfaces are dry and clean and put the gasket on dry. Put good sealer on the threads of the bolts. The torque specs are 25lbs on the front bearing retainer. (50lbs on the tail shaft and 15lbs on the cover.)

Good luck ::
