well i fixed the shifter problem i had in an earlier posting thanks to you guys on this page. now i am having another problem. seems like it has 1st 2nd and 4th but no 3rd. will shift to third but just revs up. will not pull in 3rd. pulls in 4th though. what does it normally cost to rebuild a toploader tranny. car is originally a 4 speed car but with all the things i have gone through to put back original i may just slide a c6 in it and be done with it. also what normally causes the problem i have with it right now thanks astang68

If you are near LA, Ca, you might check out Universal Transmission Exchange. They have been in business for about 40 plus years (use to supply my dad with parts back in the 40's and 50's). Mike down there (one of the 2 owners) rebuilt mine in 1986, including remachining the output shaft and the bill was $650, including a 6 month unlimited mileage warranty. I've never had anyone complain who went down there to have work done. Very honest and usually one day service whether they install the trans or not.
