I don't know specifically the Hipo manifolds, but when I do headers, I just snug them up nice and tight. I also like to go from an inside out pattern to compress the gasket and push out any air trapped. One thing that has helped a ton to avoid leaks, is with those standard non-metal gaskets, I soak them in water, making them very flexible and then drop them in place. Helps them take shape to the header, and then they dry up to that contour when you start the car.
