I am contemplating adding an outboard transmission cooler instead of running the lines into the radiator. I've seen several different types. I wanted to see what kind of results anyone has had with what type; and did it help drop engine temp as well by taking the extra heat from the radiator?

I see what you mean Timbeam, is it better to run just the seperate cooler and bypass the stock tranny cooler in the radiator to avoid parasitic heat transfer to the rad. coolant. Most setups I have seen run through both, 2 rad. better than one type of thinking.
I would think that the cooler in the rad. is designed to avoid transfer of heat from one fluid to another but maybe someone that has tested this with a tranny fluid temp. gauge on board will chime in.
I'll be watching as I plan to add a cooler in the future to my '67 289 Coupe.

Using a B+M cooler bypassing the radiator. Trans temp has stayed below 170 driving in the desert summer heat with a 4500 stall converter.
