I'm trying to identify which automatic transmission I have in my 1965 coupe. It has no ID tag. If I remember correctly, the previous owner said he had taken it and the 302 engine from a mid eighties mustang. I'm utimately trying to figure out why the drive shaft is too long. Should'nt it fit if I have a V8 drive automatic driveshaft?

I wouldn't expect your driveshaft to fit if the trans is not from a correct period Mustang (or simular car). You will have to have a driveshaft made for your car. Its not really a big deal, the trick is to correctly figure out what the length of it is and take it to a machine shop that does driveshafts.

It will be easier getting help if you post a new topic asking for help on determining the correct driveshaft length.
