Driving home today, cruising around 70mph on the highway, 4th gear started making a little noise.

Would last about 5 seconds then stop. Happened a few times. Pulled off next exit, didn't see anything, got gas and headed home, noise got a little more frequent and about 1/2 mile from home it was constant.

Maybe a syncro?

anyways, it's a 4speed toploader, it's going to have to come out for a rebuild...maybe time for a 5 speed conversion.

or, does anyone make a 5 in a 4 box? it's a pretty common motorcycle thing were they take the 5 speed tranny and rebuild the internals to a 6 speed.

Pros/cons to switching... car is not original, so originality not a deciding factor

There's not many cons to switching to a T5. They're cheap, easy to rebuild, and you probably have most of what you'll need to run a T5. I swapped out the C4 in my coupe for a T5 that I rebuilt, and I've never rebuilt or even swapped a transfer before. Plus there's a ton of info on the forum if you run into any problems.
