Could someone compile and post a list of all the standard and auto transmission gearbox's out there that will bolt straight up to an early 302 bellhousing? If it could be done stating on each one necessary mods (ie clutch, flywheel etc), benifits or drawbacks, and price (used and new if applicable) it will be a great help....

Do I ask too much? /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

It might help if you'll be more specific in your plans. Basically, the 302 bellhousing for manual transmissions will take 3 and 4 speed toploader, late, wide bolt pattern transmissions. Early ones, like 65 use a narrow bolt pattern for the transmission. The late, wide bolt pattern transmissions have a dual bolt pattern that'll fit on both early and late bellhousings.

Automatic bellhousings are completely different. As far as C4 transmissions go, there is a truck version that won't fit on a passenger car C4 and visa versa. Also there is a FMX transmission that uses it's own style and won't work on any C4. Hope this helps.

Trying to get more specific. What I am interested in really are the standard transmissions, I put the auto ones in there thinking about other VMFers that might be interested.

The story is a little long but about a year from now I am moving to Brazil - my Mustang will be up for sale /forums/images/icons/frown.gif - but on the brighter side I have been looking in to doing a Cobra Replica kit down there. The best option for motors are the 302's that came in the Maverick there, they have the same bellhousings as would be found here but they have a different transmission, a Clark 240V, that was made locally and from what I understand was similar to a toploader. I want to know what the options are that would bolt straight up as I might be able to throw a transmission in my shipment or equally search for one down there in the junkyards. There were quite a few later model Mustangs imported and I hear they want about $1500 for a 5spd in the "import" junkyards. Personally I'd like a 5 spd so that I could have a lower gear (higher ratio) in the differential but still have the 5th gear to get the revs down when at highway speeds. If all else fails I am going to check out these Clark transmissions when I am down there next in a month or so and see what I can dig up.
Thats the story..
I haven't abandoned Mustangs it is just that they are few and far between in Brazil and parts are considerably more difficult to obtain, and far more expensive. I may still get another Stang there, that I will look in to later.
