My daughter has a 65 Coupe, 289 with an automatic. When she first starts off in the morning and pulls out of the driveway or from a light, it sounds like motor whines, but the transmission doesn't catch. It takes a couple of seconds before it moves. After 5 minutes of driving, it's okay. Any ideas? Thanks.

I had a '61 Ford that did that. The transmission needed a rebuild. Mine was pretty severe, though, since I had to rev the engine pretty high to get the tranny to kick in. I never did get it fixed since the car was a rust cloud in the making.

Back when I had my Mach1, it did this. Check your fluid level, it could be a little low. At least that is what my problem was.

I agree w/ the other posters, my tranny did that; felt like it had a stall converter in it... Need rebuilt, bad. HOWEVER, I also experienced it once when I was low on fluid, check it first, its cheaper!
