In parts catalog I saw an add. for a five speed tranny with an optional 4.41 1st gear (4.06, 3.27). How does this apply to better performance for me with a 2.78 rear end? Has anybody used this tranny? Does it bolt on with the T5 kits I have heard so much about?

You will not be happy with a 4.anything first gear. Even with the 2.78 rear. A final first gear ratio of 10:1 is considered optimal for the street. A 4.41 1st gear with a 2.78 rear gear yields 12.3:1. Compare that with a 2.48 1st C4 and 3.55 rear gear yields an 8.8:1. My 3.28 1st gear and 3.5 rear gear yields an 11.5:1 and I go through my first gear pretty quick. Also keep in mind it will be alot of RPM transfered to a basically non performance rear end.

As far as the install, the Richmonds install differently than the T-5 and require some fabrication as there are no conversion kits available. Unless you are considering making some big horsepower and doing some fabrication work the T-5 would be a better choice
