Does the left work work when the brakes are applied, just not when the turn signal is on?

It could be many things including any of the following:
1)a bad bulb
2)a bad socket
3)a bad wire to the trunk
4)a bad ground (probably not since the park lights work)
5)a bad turn signal switch (I've had problems with these before.)

I would check all of the connections you can find including the grounds. Do you have a multimeter or 12volt test light? You can test the turn signal switch by finding a small connector under the dash (near the left of the steering column if I recall) that has two wire pairs connected to it, the wires are orange/blue and green/orange. This is the stop light/turn signal circuit, you can unplug this connector and test the operation of the brake switch and turn signal to each light from under the dash with your multimeter or test light. If you don't already have one, I suggest you get a copy of the wiring diagram for you car, If you in a pinch email me and I'll scan in the appropriate pages for you.
