1) I want to manually shift the transmission using a 5/16" box end wrench. Looking at the picture below which way do I move each shifting trunion numbered 1, 2, 3 to have the transmission in nuetral, 1st, 2nd, 3rd 4th and reverse.

2) Are the mesh teeth suppossed to have a flat spot? All of mine do right where the red arrow is pointing.

4th: rotate #1 counter clockwise
3rd: rotate #1 clockwise
2nd: rotate #3 counter clockwise
1st: rotate #3 clockwise

reverse: #2 clockwise

Neutral: #1 & #3 should be centered, #2 fully counter clockwise

The toploader has a safety interlock mechanism, it can only be shifted into one gear at a time (unlike most other 4 speed boxes), so don't force it. Have the cover off when you're shifting, you'll get a good idea of what's going on inside....

The flat spot is totally normal....
