I have play in the u/j at the steering wheel end of the steering column, in the middle of the tilt mechanism. How does this work? I can see what looks like a nut/bolt inside the u/j, can this be tightened? I looked in my workshop manual but no pictures or mention, if anyone has a picture they can e-mail me that would be great.

There are two small bearings in the middle of u-joint. That might be your problem the nut you see doesn't do anything as far as keeping the whole mechanism tight. Not the easiest thing to change but can be done.

Thanks for this, are the two small bearings a yoke like in a regular u/j?
