I was just looking at one VMF member's website and had a thought (UH OH, LOL!!!)

Ive had my heater box out for the dreaded core change.......and the cowl hat was thankfully in good shape.....

But it occurs to me.....why couldnt someone replace it and maybe a circle of cowl floor metal around it FROM UNDER THE DASH?

As crappy a job as removing everything under the dash, the front seats, and the carpet would be, maybe it'd still be easier than removing the cowl "sandwich"?

Well, you'd still be left with untreated metal above when you were done.

And sometimes (usually) the rust extends to the firewall lip and to the windshield lip

Personally, if you have a welder then I think it is still easier to remove the outer cowl.

Yeah, easier unless youre in college like me and cant afford a hamburger. But seriously, i know someone who tried to do something similar and wasnt able to cut out a large enough section. Rust came through within a month or so.
