I have a 69 Mach 1 R code that currently has a non matching 390 engine insead of the original 428. I am thinking about a head upgrade and I cant decided between aftermarket aluminum or original cobra jet heads. The car is being restored with some non original parts(quarters) and I may not paint it the original color so with that in mind... Is it even worth the effort to find original cobra jet parts to one day make this a numbers matching car?

Drop a Ford Motorsports 460 crate motor in it! yahooo!!!!

It may be too difficult to restore to original. So, my advice above is if it is too hard, or costly to restore. My car is just a coupe, and it had been bashed on all sides prior to yours truly obtaining it, so I am doing exactly what I like with it.

Amen. I was going to keep mine as original as possible, but I've now got a new motor, so I'm gonna do whatever I like.

Prior it had original motor and heads.

If you can find the heads reasonably I would go with the original heads. One day you might want to go back to numbers matching and it would put you that much closer - think about it, you'll probably end up dropping 1100 or so on a set of alum heads anyway, might as well put that into a set of CJ heads; If you ever want to sell, no one's going to pay you extra because you've got Edelbrocks on there, but they might with matching heads. Just my 2cents..
