value of c4 tranny

I am meeting a guy tommorrow to look at a C4 tranny that has been rebuilt. He bought it at a trans shop auction, and wants $50 for it. It does not include the bellhousing or torque converter. Is that a good price all things considered?

He also has a new set of Hedman shorty headers in the box for $50 for a 302 that I think should fit my 289?

It does not include the bellhousing

Be leary. If it's missing the bell housing, that means it's missing the pump and probably some of the internal washers and stuff that will fall out if the bellhousing is removed (pump bolts to the back of the bell housing on a C4, then the bellhousing/pump assembly bolts to the tranny).
If you knew what to look for, the trans might be a good deal...as is, I'd pass.

Headers will fit your engine...what car are they for..?

BTW, the pump sandwiches between the bellhousing and main trans case and the bellhousing to case bolts hold it in place....I have a number of complete cores sans bellhousings which still have the pump in place (couple of bolts holding it in)...I just find them easier to store that way..
