This is on a 71 302, comp can 270 hydraulic lifter. I am getting what sounds like valve lifter noise. I have adjusted the valve 4 times and it keeps coming back.
The heads have screwin studs. Stock hipo rockers.
The motor made the same noise before I put the new cam and lifters in. So what else can it be? The spring are not binding. The motor has about 1000 miles on it.
I have adjust valves 100's of times. This is a first for me.

Have you checked your exhaust manifold gaskets? I had the same problem with my 289, was driving me crazy, after adjusting and then even replacing the lifters and they still were making noise, I looked at the exhaust manifold gasket and one was leaking, replaced them, no more noise!

I had a Comp Cams 252H in a 302, sounded like solid tappets... Also with stock rail rockers.

Tried another set of lifters with the cam, no improvement... Called the tech line, they told me that the "ramp angles" that were ground in the cam were responsible for the noise, I got used to it.

All in all, a great little camshaft.
