Are the dual vertical chrome bumper things, front and back, on a 65 integral to the bumper support or are they just for looks? I'm considering removing them. I've seen pictures of 65/66 models without them.

They are called bumper guards? I would think they would be called valance guards if they are to really guard something. I'm not out to shoot the messenger, just asking.

If you end up putting dual exhaust out the back via the GT rear valance you will find these are removed to allow for the pss-through holes.

I've got to agree with you on both counts. Valance guards would appear to be more accurate and the car looks better without them.
