I've posted over the past two years questions about how to clean the 65/66 GT trumpets of the black crud, and got several answers. Well, before Pensacola, I really went to town and got it back to original chrome finish. Only problem: NOS and repro GT trumpets have the slats and interior painted black, as seen at Pensacola. What I did was scrape all of the paint off. No one here or at fomoco.com told me. I'm not going to accept the Doofus Award for this, as you have to know better but still do a bonehead thing.

This post is for the record.

I bought some simple green as recomended-didn't seem to help much on first couple of scrubings-I was thinking about giving it another try.........

is still a Doofus. I guess you'll have to store the flamingo for awhile. *hehe*

My 66 has it's own way of keeping it's trumpets clean, it blew one of the slats right out of the trumpet! Now it looks goofy as hell, kind of like the ass end is winking at people behind me!

Those trumpets are OUTATHERE! I'm going to find some alternative exhaust tips.

Don't worry about it. Adjust your carb a little rich and drive it for 6 months that way. Soon the interior and slats will be black, just like from the factory (why do you think they were painted that way in the first place - haha).

sure it's fun, but it's only a car.

Think of your "new and improved" exhaust trumpets as a special, dealer-added feature!

Thanks,

I hate to laugh, but you must admit that it's kinda comical thinking about scrubbing on the paint and saying, "Man, this soot is really on there!" *LOL*

This may narrowly escape the doofus award.

Did I miss it or did you not post your score from the show? How about Laurie?

The actual numerical scores won't come unless we mail in requesting our judging sheets. Laurie got a Bronze /forums/images/icons/frown.gif and I got skunked. Of 7 entries in my class, six got awards.
