Anybody ever rebuilt a water pump? Is it possible? Tips? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Your water pump is just a small, portable version of the big centrifugal pumps I worked on for years....It has a sealed bearing to support the shaft and an unbalanced mechanical seal to keep the coolant in...

If you know how to handle mechanical seals and have a press and a couple of fixtures to fit the pump, repairing your own is no big deal....

Usually, the seal fails, which allows coolant to get to the bearing, eventually causing it to fail as well...

For the average person, it's more cost effective to buy a rebuilt from someplace like autozone or to have a local rebuilder do your core, if it is rare...

Pat,Thanks for the feedback. I do have the presses and bearing pullers ,etc. and it looks simple. The Gasket on back of the plate is what i will have to find. The bearing should be simple enough.
