Well, It's that time of year again when we take the town back!
No more snotty Ferrari people or Porsche and BMW clubs. By the way the Shelby club people are the most normal(I'm told).
Gone are the NASCAR crowds. For that week the area (population 5500) swells to 150,000.

Don't get me wrong, we love the people. As the locals say, "It's good to see them go in the fall but it's nice to see them come back in the spring!"
Heres some of last years pics and other links. http://www.glenphotos.com/vintage2002/index.html

Going to be a really nice weekend. "The weather is here, wish you were beautiful."

Like to do a VMF thing. Maybe next year.
Tour the wineries and eat great food in the Mustangs! http://www.fingerlakeswinetours.com/
My partner's winery. I live to the right in the pic. 8 miles north of Watkins. http://www.atwatervineyards.com/

Hi all,
If we have a VMF get together in the Watkins Glen area next year we have a B&B in Bloomfield, NY about 1 hour away. Anyone traveling a distance & needs a place to stay is welcome here at a reduced rate for any VMFer. We have 3 rooms in the B&B & 2 rooms in the carriage house rental home. Wecan accomidate up to 10 people. Would'nt you rather stay with a fellow VMFer?. ::

I attended the last race at Watkins Glen held in the town sometime in the early '50's. Tragic accident that killed at least one at the end of straight thru town. Any pictures from that era? I may have some slide in my archives. PM if you would like me to look.

saw a road race there in 1949 (i believe) when race was on town streets. in those days rich people raced their sports cars - people like Briggs Cunningham and others i can't remember. unfortunatly a young kid was swinging around a pole at edge of street and a race car hit and killed him. that was when they moved out to track as it exits now.

I was just up in your neck of the woods a few weeks back to run at the Glen. You live in a beautiful part of the world. The track was fantastic.

I chatted with the owner of the Seneca Lodge - great guy. He had some interesting stories - esp about the Ferrari and Porsche owners. I also loved the finger trophy. HAHAHA

I'll definitely be back next year with the Shelby Club
