Weather seal adhesive

that stuff will dry kinda fast so you have to put it on quick. a good trick is to apply the glue to the trunk lid with a small brush. you don't need to apply glue to the gasket, just the trunk lid. Start at the middle of the lid at the back(closest to key lock). Also, glue the thinnest side of the gasket down.

I don't know about the yellow stuff, but I used the black 3M super weatherstrip adhesive. It went on exactly as you say; apply to both surfaces, let it dry to tacky (10 or so minutes), then press in place. Worked great. I believe the instructions even said to do it this way. Just do a foot or two at a time, rather than all at once.

Charles, I feel totally inadequate in disagreeing with your advice, please step in and flame me if I'm wrong on this.

Just put in new weather seal a few days ago. The adhesive I bought said to put a thin coat on both pieces like you describe.
I found that an old toothbrush worked great for applying the glue into the groove where the weatherstrip fits.

i've installed a couple dozen of these(at least) and never put adhesive on the gasket. the factory used yellow glue,,, but the black glue does look cleaner. 3M makes both black and yellow weatherstrip adhesive.

best thing to do is apply to the trunk lid with a small brush and then set the gasket down immediately.

3M goes on both the metal and the gasket. Allow to dry then apply another coat of glue to the gasket...you don't coat the entire gasket with the second coat,but just the area you are working on.You apply the second coat to the gasket as you go along. Use black for appearence. Ford used yellow and by the time lunch rolled around,the guy on the assembly line was high as a kite from inhaling those glue fumes all morning. You can tell if your car was glued in the morning or late in the day by the amount of extra spooge that is visible ha ha. Good luck
