I ordered new shoes for the rear brakes. I measured the existing drums, which are for a 2" x 10" shoe/lining.

Just in case, I brought a drum and the old linings into the parts store.

His drum was exactly the same dimension as mine, the shoes looked wider.
The 2" shoes fit in the drums so I took them home. My existing linings measure 1 3/4" and the new ones are 2"

I am guessing the '69 rear big block 9" housing had a brake job somewhere along the line, and someone put these pads in.

I wonder where the 1 3/4's are from :: The mustang ones are 1 1/2" and 2" unless it's a Boss which is 2 1/2" I think.

IIRC, the BB's take a 2" shoe and Sb's take the 1 3/4" shoe. When I did brakes on my 66 years ago I noticed that BB's took wider front and rear drum brake shoes then SB's. I also noticed that the front drum wether BB or SB took the same drum. SO, I put BB shoes on the front, fit fine, I took it as a cheap upgrade. Also back then, disc braked cars took a bigger rear shoe as well some times.
