Is this a good deal or not? I have no idea. They say shipping is free though.

Probably not bad if you do a bit of welding, I got my tank "used" from Airgas I bought it outright so I don't have to pay a lease on it and ever time I get gas it's an exchange so I don't have to worry about "my" tank expiring .However you should check with your gas supplier to make sure they will accept it as stated in the add

I have the second tank 75/25 mix on my steel Miller 250, the the four on my Miller 150 75/25 mix and then the first on my miller aluminum spool gun with straight argon. The flux core wire leaves a lot of splatter and a porous weld.
Depends what you do.

My Mig is set up for 100% CO2, and I took my tank to the local Red Ball store and ended up with a CO2 tank that is supposed to go in a Coke vending machine. When I asked about it, he said it wasn't a problem, just when I needed it refilled, to be sure I brought it back to him. That's not a problem because he is the only supplier in about 75 miles.

Why not 75% argon mix?

When I bought it, that's what they said to use. Next time I'm at Red Ball I'll have to ask them about that.

I have a 40. Go through it every couple of months but the place I exchange out is fairly close by and pretty cheap so it works well for me.

I had trouble with an oxygen tank once. I believe it was a praxair and i was trying to get airgas to fill it here. Finally said screw it and exchanged it for one of their tanks with a small exchange rate just so i didnt have to mess with it. It's a 125 and I dont use the torch often so I'll probably never have to refill it.

I've been using the same supplier for years for my welding tank refills. I bought a used torch kit with the big bottles from a neighbor for $100; it actually had a 'title' for the tank from back in the 60's when I bought it. When I took it in to fill (swap) it, the guy first said they wouldn't due to it not being theirs. After he looked up my account, he said he had an 'extra' tank in back that he's swap out for me at no charge. We swapped the empties, then he smiled and said now that it was one of 'his', no problem! :wink:

I have a 122/48" bottle, 75/25 Argon/Co2 mix. I get the entire bottle swapped out for about $27. Finally ran out of my 1st bottle, then lost most of the gas when my gas line in the welder broke. Had to swap it out again.

I just did some reading on CO2 vs Argon/CO2. It seems that the mix will give a cleaner weld, but the straight CO2 will give a slightly hotter weld, which can allow a small machine to weld thicker material. And the Argon/CO2 mix may require a different regulator or tank adapter.

I have heard that the Argon/CO2 mix welds "cleaner" than straight CO2. But CO2 is much cheaper than the mix so if you weld a lot the CO2 savings can add up.

In my case, either the straight Co2 or the mix uses the same regulator, same tank. No adapters required.

At our shop we use big bottles. They are delivered. At home I use a 40. No delivery. I'm old.

80 ci usually gets me to the first time i forget to turn the gas off on a Sunday night. If i remember, It gets me a full season when I'm into a project otherwise i can go 18-24 months. Round here, you donate a good cylinder and get one thats full, probably never see the one you donated again...

I use an 80 CF 75% argon 25% CO2 which was enough to do 2 floor pans, 2 seat risers, 4 fender aprons. and a radiator support. Be careful and double check to bottle when you get a refill. The last time they gave me a TIG bottle, 100% argon. When I started welding again the weld would sit on top of the work like a fat worm. I thought it was the machine and tore it apart and cleaned everything twice before I saw the problem. I'd like to know where you guys get such cheap refills. An 80 CF costs me $80 to refill

Yes, refill prices are all over the place from the posts here.

I've scrounged up an old TIG set up that I didn't know we had in the warehouse, along with a new looking, looks barely used, Miller Thunderbolt stick welder, acetylene torch, a 125 tank and accessories.

All of this has been back there for a while. The tank is from 1989, stamped after that, but still out of date, so it'll cost me $15.00 for testing, then $57.00 for a refill.

All this is like finding a $20 in the pocket of something that you haven't worn in a while,...!!

Are the tanks painted to reflect the contents? This one is a little rusted on the bottom from sitting on the cement floor for who knows how many years, so not being a loaner, I'll sand and paint it.

Again, does the tank's color reflect anything?

Just picked up an Eastwood 135 mig for 259, then got 10% off that, then free shipping. Was a cyber monday thing but pricing was still good this am. anyhow I having sticker shock on shield gas cylinders. Tractor supply uses a supplier called Thoroughbred. They want $139 for a size 1 cylinder (20cf) $229 for a size 2 (40cf) $299 for a size 3 (80cf)
once you have the cylinder it costs $29 for a size 1 refill, $36 for a size 2 refill, and $48 for a size 3 refill. There has to be a better way. I would be glad to pay $100 for a 55 cf tank if I knew where I could get it filled

Make sure your local guy will fill or exchange your bottle. Try to find a Airgas or a Redball dealer for your refills.

Has anyone got one of these bottles? I talked to a gas supplier here. He said if the bottle is as described he could swap it out, but no way he could sell one to me for that price.
