OK so I am in the middle of my 9 inch upgrade project. I am going to mix and match parts to make my equa-loc 3.89 9 inch rear end. I got a complete rear out of a '70 Cougar. The housing is cleaned up and painted. Now I am working on the carrier. I disassembled the 2.75 that came out of the Cougar. The carrier housing looks pretty good, cleaned up nice. I did have the "red" "rust" color on it under all of the dirt and grease. What is that color called? I was just going to paint it semi-gloss black, but that "red" color would look good under there. Nothing fancy, I'm just using a rattle can. TIA fd

Red Oxide, as Josh said.

Original Corroless/Rust Encapsulator will work if you have some, but rattle can primer of that color will work on the cheap too......

I used Rustoleum Ruddy Orange primer. It's a pretty good match. I think it's called Ruddy Orange. I know it's Ruddy something.
