What is the safest size tire is recomended on a 7" rim and on an 8" rim. Is 255 too big for a 8" rim. Would it look stupid on a coupe grande.

From the tire guy..... A 255/60 or a 255/70 will fit on an 8" wheel. For each tire, there is an approved rim width range that will fit that tire. From your tire shop, you should be able to get the "engineering data" for a particular tire. This gives the o.d., section width, tread width AND the rim width (design rim) that these measurements were taken from. The rim width that the mesurements were taken from is very important. If you go with a wider wheel, within the rim width range, you will increase the section width of the tire (that's the widest part of the tire, sidewall to sidewall). For each 1/2" increment increase from the measuring wheel, you will increase the section width +/-.2 (basically, almost a 1/4"). Doesn't sound like much until you put the tire and wheel on the car and find that it rubs the fender lip just slightly enough to annoy you and possibly ruin the tire. The offset of the wheel is also critically important to make the tire / wheel combo fit inside the fenderwell. It'll take some playing with it to get it where you want. The best scenario before you purchase anything is to try and get a similar tire / wheel on the car just to test fit. Hope this helps. Tony
