I have been looking to replace my setup from the stock 67 gt style setup (resonators and transversal muffler) to a 66 style with 2 flowmasters on either side and 2 1/2 all the way back. I would like louder and healthier than I have now, but not teeth rattling. What is the differences in the different mufflers (3 chamber, 2 chamber, 40 series, etc.), list if possible. And I have heard that going smaller after the muffler is advised...whats up with that??

i have 2 chamber flowmaster with 2 1/2 inch all the way back. And it is very loud. I'd suggest going with 3 chamber, it's got a nice low rubble and it's still has a nice tone.

The reason for going smaller behind the mufflers is that the farther back exhaust travels, the cooler it gets. As it cools, it takes up less room. By going smaller, you supposedly keep the velocity of the gas up, which helps scavenging. Is it noticeable? Beats me.

I run three-chamber Deltaflows with my modified 302. Not tooth-rattling but sounds very nice. Don't forget to use a cross over. They provide a noticeable torque increase and mellow the sound a bit in my experience.

I like it! But what kind of a car is it? And what is that squirrel cage doing on top of the hood? *G*

Hey there,
I have 67 FB with a built 289 (around 350HP). I just had duel Flowmaster Scavenger Series (baby flows) put on my car with 3 1/2 Tips.
It's loud as hell so, I maybe wouldn't suggest them for you but if anyone is looking for a really deep, loud sound (ie. Just like Elenor in the scene where he's rolling slowly down the alley) deep chugging sound, then I would recommend this set up. Oh, if you're concerned about legality, these are for track cars and are not technically "street legal", but hey I can surely tell a performance improvement, plus it sounds better than any 5.0 I have heard.
