I would like to put together a kit with spare screws for my 65. Which of the threads are commonly used the vintage Mustang, which are not necessary, and which are missing from the list?

That is my idea:

5/16"-18 and 3/8"-16 are the 2 most common sizes. There are many different lengths used and trying to have a kit with all sizes and lengths would be a major undertaking.

Ive lost near no bolts in many years of antique auto operation. Proper torque will do a lot of good in keeping stuff together.
A couple 5/16 and 3/8 and some washers to adjust the length. A bungy cord and a small roll of steel wire.
Small assortment of tools that you can service your battery posts. And a wrench for the distributor. I have done 2 side of the road dizzy swaps over the years.

They sell fastener kits for most major components. (Even for the entire car.) I like to buy these little kits. Then not only do I get exactly what I need for a parts replacement project I also get to keep the originals for spares or whatever.

That said when I get the chance I will buy a bag or box of nuts, washers, lockwashers, etc that seem useful. Like nylock 3/8 coarse thread nuts and such. More so these days. I wanted some simple nuts and bolts to bolt some wood down as the floor of a small trailer. I had a few and bolted two boards down. From there I was able to calculate how many more I need to buy. Off to Lowe's and Home Depot for them. Nope. Didn't take long to figure out that even buying the boxed quantity version of the fasteners I was looking at over $100. Absurd. I found them online so cheap I bought extra AND some lockwashers. Just over $20, shipped. Because someone will ask, it's a carpentry supply place but they had what I was after and more bolts besides. I posted these on another thread before, but I've found these things are the best way to store and dig for miscellaneous hardware. I'm a building maintenance technician, we have a lot of random hardware.

Whichever screw/bolt you don't have is going to be the one you need

I keep a few spare header bolts in my car, actually, as they seem to dispense of themselves every once in a while....
